FAQs about Hypnosis

I have taken this information from a talk made by Marisa Peer and it will answer all questions that you may have regarding hypnosis.
For anyone new to hypnosis, you might be a little hesitant or you might be wondering if hypnosis is safe. Contrary to popular myths compounded by films, television, and stage hypnosis, there is a science behind hypnosis and the simple truth is: you can never be forced to do anything you don’t want to do while you are in hypnosis.

You’re not out of control, you’re in control because you actually gain power over your present and future. Hypnosis is a sleep of the nervous system so that your body is relaxed, but your mind is super-alert, processing, taking stuff in, letting go of old, out-dated beliefs, and picking up much better ones.
You are in hypnosis so many times already during your day that you may not know about. When you’re driving your car home, you’re on autopilot, you don’t think about it, you know all the turns and roads to get there, you just do it, without even thinking about it. Even when you’re cooking a recipe that you know so well, you just make it, without thinking about it. When you’re watching a movie and you’re so engrossed and a phone rings and you’re so engrossed you jump, or engrossed in a book and you jump. You are in hypnosis. Hypnosis is not about going to sleep; it’s about waking up.
You don’t go to sleep when you practice self-hypnosis, you wake your mind up to your phenomenal potential and the fact that you can achieve it. Hypnosis has so many benefits it literally changes people’s lives.
You can change your limiting beliefs about money, health, love, success, use it to get rid of fears, phobias, addictions, anxiety, to massively raise the self-confidence and self-esteem. People use it to change their beliefs about finding love, getting the job of their dreams, having the body of their dreams, ridding themselves of perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms.

Hypnosis shuts down your inner critic, the one that says, I’d love to give a talk/presentation but I’m really scared of opening my mouth or going bright red, or going blank. I’m so scared, I can’t do it. That critical voice shuts down in hypnosis and in hypnosis, you can see yourself doing things that you may resist. For example, I can go up to that person and ask them out because I know that they’re going to say yes. The inner voice says, “Oh no that would ruin you and you’d be so embarrassed and all rejected, don’t take the risk.”  In hypnosis, the critic shuts down and your inner cheerleader goes, “Do it!, who could not like you, you’re amazing.”
So many people are scared that when they’re hypnotised, they’re going to say something they don’t want to say, that never happens, you can’t be made to say anything that you don’t want to say in hypnosis.
By the way, you’re never under hypnosis, you’re in it, and I love it, for me, it’s the best asset in the world, it’s the fastest way to change your life, because it changes you at a sub-conscious level.
You see the problem is trying to change consciously. For example, if you you had a terror of dogs, that’s a sub-conscious fear, wired into your sub-conscious. Imagine someone’s holding a tiny chihuahua in their arms and saying, “ Oh, he can’t hurt you, he’s so sweet, look I’m holding him, you’re safe, it’s okay”, that is your conscious mind. Your subconscious mind is thinking that dog could attack you, it could bite you, it could scratch you. So, no matter how your conscious thoughts are, you have to change your subconscious. Another example, my conscious mind says, “I love cake or hot chocolate, it makes me happy, it rewards me, you want to take that away and give me lemon water and an apple. No! You’re taking away my joy, I’m resisting you because I keep saying that I love cake, I love food, diets are boring, who wants to eat lettuce like a rabbit!”. So, conscious change is hard, but when you get the sub-conscious to change, you can go, actually, I love apples. I eat cake once a week but it’s not actually my thing anymore. When you do that, you don’t have to work. We make our habits, our habits turn around and make us. And habits begin in the subconscious mind. Trying to change them consciously is hard, and changing them subconsciously is easy, and it’s permanent. It simply isn’t true that you can’t change, you can change massively, powerfully, profoundly, if you just know how.
